Robbie Zhang-Smitheram

Robbie has studied classical piano since the age of five, first in Hong-Kong and then with Diana Fanning in Middlebury, Vermont. He attended the Point CounterPoint chamber music camp (’04-’05), Bowdoin International Music Festival (’06), and was a Bénévole at the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland (’07).

He won first place in the Vermont Baldwin (’02), Vermont Young Artists (’05), Vermont Senior Yamaha piano competitions (’05), and was the winner of the Jon Borowicz Concerto Competition (’06).

He is an alumni of the Vermont Youth Orchestra, having toured China with the VYO and Phillip Ying as the soloist in 2007. He was a soloist with the Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lou Kosma of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (’07) and was featured on WCVT 101.7 FM Classic Vermont.

He has performed all over the New England states, giving winner’s recitals and playing at events such as the Hawthorne Club of Middlebury College and talent shows for the Middlebury Town Hall Theatre. He was sponsored by CHP, Inc., to give his first full-length concert at the age of seventeen at the Vergennes Opera House.
